After completing London marathon yesterday it was a relaxing morning at my hostel and one final kit check before boarding the tube to Heathrow and catching the short flight to Oslo where I would spend the night before continuing on to Johannesburg in the morning.
The flight although slightly delayed was very good and time passed quickly much to the relief of my recovering legs.
Whilst passing through immigration the official enquired about my hotel arrangements for the night and informed me that there was currently a national hotel and restaurant workers strike suggesting that I should call the hotel before travelling to it as I might not be able to check in.
Oh well looks like I might be spending another night sleeping in an airport then. Wouldn't be the first time!
After collecting my bag and managing to find a WiFi connection it was confirmed that my hotel was one of those closed as part of the strike action.
The strikes began early Sunday morning and new guests were prevented from checking in and existing guests were forced to leave and find alternative accommodation.
I got chatting to a member of staff at the airport and he informd me that a nearby hotel was not striking and should have availability. So I boarded the shuttle bus and took the short drive to the Gardermoen airport hotel.
The hotel appeared to be very nice and a room was available for the night at a price of 700NOK including breakfast (approximately £60) very reasonable as far as Norway pricing goes and at least it meant I would avoid a night sleeping on the airport floor.
Day 1 approaching an end goodnight from Oslo and let's see what tomorrow brings.
Phew! Thank goodness. Hope you had a good night's kip.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yeah a good night's sleep now onwards to Johannesburg
